President's Newsletter, November 2014 – Our new district

If you weren't able to attend the inaugural District 91 conference earlier this month, then I'm afraid you missed out! It was an honour to be representing Excalibur Speakers at the District Council meeting, and I was delighted to see so many familiar faces over the weekend.
Congratulations to Excaliburger David J - representing Division L - who came second in the Table Topics contest and also to Tazud M, fellow Area 45-er, who won the Humorous Speech contest.
Also flying the flag for Excalibur were Lynne C, who hosted a workshop with the award-winning improv troop The Maydays, and Karthik, who was eager to volunteer for roll-playing in front of the crowds.
Don't worry though, as if you missed out on this occasion it will be even easier for you to attend spring conference as it is right here, in London! It will be hosted by our very own Division B, and Division Governor Jill is looking for volunteers to be part of this exciting showcase event for our Division. Please let me know if you would like to find out more.
Looking ahead to...

Distinguished Club Programme
The Distinguished Club Programme (DCP) is Toastmasters International's framework of objectives that clubs should aim to achieve within the Toastmasters year, and different levels of recognition are awarded depending on how many of the ten criteria are met.

Here is our club's current DCP status:
  1. Two Competent Communicator awards: Not yet achieved
  2. Two more Competent Communicator awards: Not yet achieved
  3. One Advanced Communicator award: Not yet achieved
  4. One more Advanced Communicator award: Not yet achieved
  5. One leadership award: Peter G (ALB)
  6. One more leadership award: Not yet achieved
  7. Four new members: Tony S, Carl R, Marc L, Richard F
  8. Four more new members: Mark M, Indra S, Bob F, Anton H
  9. At least four club officers trained at each of two training events: Half achieved (Cat, Karthik, Swarajit, Chinkata, Tony W, Ken)
  10. On-time submission of club officer list and membership dues: Achieved

Total to date = 4 achieved and 1 half achieved

Please let me know if you would like mentoring or support to help you to achieve your Toastmasters goals for this year, which will in turn help us achieve our goals as a club.

The Final Word

I would like to take this opportunity to offer a huge thanks on behalf of the club to Karthik, who has put himself forward to pick up where Ken left off as VP Education. Since Karthik has been our VP Membership for the first few months of the year, and got us off to a great start by hitting our 2 DCP membership goals in short-order, he is relishing the new challenge.

This leaves a vacancy on our Committee. Do you think you can fill the gap? We are enjoying taking the club from strength to strength and would like to add a like-minded person to our team as new VP Membership. Please let me know if you are keen for this leadership opportunity.

And if you aren't sure about whether it is the right time to jump in, this is a little something that keeps me going...

"Dance like no one's watching,
Sing like no one's listening,
Live each day as if it was your last"

Best wishes,

Cat Kipling
