What an exciting month we have ahead of us: summer is in the air (for one day at least), it's my birthday (shameless plug) and we are in the final countdown (cue the 1980s...) to the end of the Toastmasters year.
With three weeks to go, it isn't yet time to reflect on what we have achieved as a club during the 2014/15 Toastmasters year. However, it is a time to get excited about the opportunities ahead of us.
What do you want to achieve in 2015/16? Rather than waiting until July 1st to put your plan in place, I would suggest that now is the time to be lining up your thoughts, hopes and aspirations! Maybe you feel like it is time to be part of the Club Committee - either to give something back to the members or to address a particular area you want to develop - or perhaps 2015/16 is the year for you to complete that Leadership manual that has been lingering or to take your Communication track to the next level?
Let's take that next step together with our…
Forthcoming events
At our Regular meeting this week, Wednesday 10th June at 7pm, we have four fantastic speeches lined up and there are a number of other slots available for you to get an extra bit of stage time! Grab this opportunity with both hands and sign up for roles online or by emailing VPE Karthik.
Our final Speak Out meeting of the year takes place at the Concert Artistes Association on Thursday 25th June at 12.00. Take the chance whilst you can, as the CAA closes for the summer and the meetings won't resume until September.
Our final gathering of the Toastmasters year is our member-only, year-end party with the other clubs in Area 45 on Friday 26th June from 19.00. Members should have received an invitation direct to your inbox, so please let me know if you haven't received this.
From that point on, I will be handing over to President Elect, Past District Governor Freddie Daniells, who was elected at our May Regular meeting. As I look at the plans afoot, I feel that as members of Excalibur Speakers we have another exciting year ahead.
Distinguished Club Programme
The Distinguished Club Programme (DCP) is Toastmasters International's framework of objectives that clubs should aim to achieve within the Toastmasters year, and different levels of recognition are awarded depending on how many of the ten criteria are met.
At this critical point in the year, we are adding up all of our final awards. Congratulations to George for completing another CC and to David L for completing his Advanced Communicator Gold. This takes us to 8 club points for the year, which means we have already achieved Select Distinguished Club.
We have successfully jumped over many hurdles to get us this far, but there is one more to take us to the victorious height of President's Distinguished Club - and we have two Advanced Communicator awards that are very well progressed, either of which will take us leaping and bounding across the finishing line! I will let you know how we get on in my final President's Newsletter at the end of the month.
The Final Word
As we begin to reflect over the coming weeks about what we have achieved as a club and as members during the 2014/15 Toastmasters year, I will be keeping in mind the wise words of Eleanor Roosevelt:
"You rarely achieve finality. If you did, life would be over, but as you strive new visions open before you, new possibilities for the satisfaction of living."
Best wishes,
Cat
President,
Excalibur Speakers
