Reminders:
Urgent: Your
Excaliburger Fees are due by Friday 23 March 2018!
As always, President Chinkata Okpara opened the meeting with enthusiasm and reminded us to pay the Excaliburger Fees, now!
Toastmaster of the evening, Nick
Westall prepared a series of jokes to introduce each session. Cat
Kipling warmly introduced guests Ian, Vivienne, and Glen. New
member Sophie Jones as timekeeper
explained the time rules clearly.
Table Topics session
Our international
student, Eva Yang, being TTM for the first time, conducted
the session with interesting questions related to England. In the
beginning, Jan Winnick shared her favourite musical experience
of “Our House”. Marcin Tolysz phrased her lovely descriptions
of the story. When it comes to the tourist attractions during Easter vacation, Monika Swiderska recommended Aberdeen
in Scotland with foxy whether and silver city. David West enjoyed her senses of humour. Guest Ian described Heathrow airport as something
special for England with an interesting experience. Cat Kipling found
his speech very joyful. Having acted as a real witch in Harry Potter, Robin Alcott thought the spell to get
on 9-3/4 platform was fantastic. Sophie
Jones, though a busy timekeeper, can hear her excitement from the words.
Concerning the increasing tuition fee in the UK, Anne Bingham agreed with the raise of the educational fee and also opposed it. Lynne Cantor
was surprised at her humorous explanations.
Prepared Speeches!
Ben Starling introduced his friend Sunny
and described the story on the topic “The Meaning of Life.”
Evaluator Freddie Daniells enjoyed that he set up the story as
a narrator and recommended to add more dialogues. Second speaker Paul
Andreas brought us the history of financial under the title “Eye,
Eye aka Globalism, Part Two.” Evaluator Lynne Cantor loved
the detailed explanation behind the figure on the dollar note and suggested to
address more on the conclusion. The final speaker David Lennon talked
about his personal story as a War Correspondent with the title “Why am I the only
one?” Evaluator Chinkata Okpara loved his appearance, jacket and microphone, as well
as the opening which captured the audience at once.
Open Feedback:
Robin
Alcott clearly
and succinctly drew out audience commendations and recommendations for both
speakers.
General
Evaluator Glen Savage provided
great suggestions to all the session masters as well as the evaluators. Most importantly,
he gave us a sword as a present of Excalibur speakers club.
Finally, Chinkata
Okpara closed the meeting by announcing the winners:
